Visitor Center and Volunteers
If you have not yet visited our beautiful Visitor
Center at the Historic Passenger Depot, we encourage you to do so.
We share the building with the Colfax Area Historical
Society, and we are very proud that the building
was painstakingly renovated to the exact specifications in the
"restoration project" that started in 2000 and was completed in 2007.
It is an exact replica of the 1905 building, right down to the original beveled
windows, interior and exterior paint and the glass ticket window. This
made our historic structure eligible to be added to the
Historical Registry and we are proud to have the official metal
plaque attached to the outside of the building for all to see.
At the Colfax Area Chamber of Commerce Visitor
Center, we take great pride in assisting travelers, tourists
and locals alike. Open on a daily basis, people
come through looking for information on hiking trails,
camping, lodging, restaurants and other amenities that
Colfax has to offer. Several maps and brochures are
available and very helpful in navigating the local area.
Even though we are not a ticketed Amtrak Station, we
access real-time daily schedules of the California Zephyr
in order to assist those who are either taking the train or picking up passengers.
If a train is running late, we encourage people to wait in our very comfortable
passenger waiting room, where reading materials are available. We also have Wi-Fi
in the building which can be accessed free of charge.
Also, we send out "Re-location Packets" to those thinking
of moving to our area. Whether in person or on the
phone, our Ambassadors are very friendly and helpful.
Check out the lovely gifts for sale; many of them on
consignment from local artists, as well as snacks, candy
and soft drinks.
At the Museum next door, you can take a step back in
time, as there are so many old items on display, from
the gold rush era to railroad items, old books, apothecary
containers and vintage dolls. If you desire to learn
more on the history of Colfax, this is where you want go,
as they are very knowledgeable and friendly.
So, "come on down" to see our beautiful building and meet the
Ambassadors who volunteer their time to be there for the
community!
The Visitor Center is open daily from 10 am to 3 pm.
